The Hideout Theatre – Downstairs
The Hideout Theatre is a two-stage venue in the heart of downtown Austin. With a downstairs black box seating around 90 audience members and an upstairs stage maxing out at around 50, you can be sure of an intimate theatre experience. Sitting squarely in Austin’s theatre district on the city’s main drag, Congress Avenue, The Hideout is one block from 6th Street, one of the most famous stretches of bars and live music in the country, and five blocks from the majestic State Capitol.
Stateside at the Paramount
Stateside at the Paramount, built in 1935 as The State Theatre, stands next to the Paramount Theatre on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin, Texas. At approximately 300 seats, Stateside at the Paramount boasts an intimate and comfortable setting for both film and live performances. Most recently, the venue has hosted such diverse events as the annual SXSW Film Festival, Moontower Comedy and Oddity festival, and exhibitions by local nonprofit arts organizations that reflect the spirit of the Austin community.
In addition to its robust programming, Stateside at the Paramount is home to the State Theatre School of Acting in partnership with ACC, Scriptworks, and numerous youth theatre camps and classes.
The Long Center
The Long Center is a performing arts venue located along Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin, Texas. The Long Center offers multiple performance and event spaces, including the Michael & Susan Dell Hall and the Debra and Kevin Rollins Studio Theatre.
Pay parking is available both in the Palmer Garage behind the Long Center and at One Texas Center across the street. Please allow time to park and pick up your tickets at the box office. For more information, please refer to the Long Center’s parking page.
The Institution Theater
The Institution Theater is a 49-seat theater with a spacious stage and an elaborate lighting package located in a warehouse district just off South Congress in the heart of the 78704. Located just behind Penn Field, The Institution Theater is within walking distance of many restaurants and bars, and the infamous Ruta Maya Coffeehouse.
ColdTowne Theater is Austin’s home for alternative sketch, improv and stand up comedy. Located in the heart of the scenic Airport Blvd. car repair district, ColdTowne’s intimate, rock ‘n’ roll environs create a petri dish where up and coming comedians from central Texas can hone their craft in front of packed houses seven nights a week. ColdTowne Theater has boasted free parking and cheap comedy for close to six years, becoming a mainstay of the local comedy scene.
The New Movement
The New Movement is a network of comedy training centers and venues located in Austin, Houston, and New Orleans, LA. Having recently outgrown their East Austin location, The New Movement now operates in an underground venue complete with a 70+ capacity stage and two classrooms at 7th and Lavaca. The theater actively tours the country and is proud to be involved with notable local festivals such as FunFunFun Fest, SXSW, Moontower, The Megaphone Marathons and now Out of Bounds. TNM has free or cheap shows every day, but Sunday.
The Velveeta Room
Opening in March 1988 as stand-up comedy exploded all across the nation as a new and viable live entertainment option, The Velv has reduced many a comic to tears, and is considered one of the tougher rooms in the country. It consistently houses a rousing and cunning audience of comedy fans who give no quarter to the meek and timid.
Spider House Ballroom (29th& Guadalupe)
The Spider House Ballroom specializes in a variety of events with specialty cocktails and nightly drink specials. Happy Hour is every night from 5-8PM.
Draped in red-velvet curtains, providing an intimate room for live music, comedy, film, candlelit cabarets, dance parties, and private functions with two stages and a full bar. The Spider House Ballroom’s calendar often features Austin’s most up-and-coming performing artists, musicians, and comedians. It’s cozy outdoor patio area is also home to Souvlaki Greek Original Gyros.
Austin Java (12th & Lamar)
An Austin staple, this 12th & Lamar location is a popular destination for good local food, local coffee, and beer. It’s also an up & coming hotspot for Austin comics. Austin Java is participating in this year’s Out of Bounds festival with a special night of Sure Thing, their regular stand-up showcase. You can bring your dog to the patio for this event!
