Chickspeare LA

Chickspeare LA was created in Los Angeles at ComedySportz Los Angeles by director James Thomas Bailey in 2010, along with Gregory Beirne. The ensemble has performed every summer since, both at their home theatre in Hollywood and in Napa, CA. The show has also played at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR.

The all-female cast is consists of nine professional improvisers with diverse backgrounds in theatre, improvisational theatre, sketch comedy, stand up comedy, television and film.They hail from California, Florida, Minnesota, Virginia and Rhode Island. Several members hold university theater degrees in their home states, and one attended the Oxford School of Drama in England. Some of the cast also studied at ACT, the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and East15 in London. These women cut their improv teeth at some of the most prestigious improv schools in the world: Second City, The Groundlings, Upright Citizen’s Brigade, IO West, Brave New Workshop, ACME Comedy Theatre as well as with Comedysportz in Los Angeles, San Jose, and the Twin Cities. Their appearances in Shakespeare have included such roles as Rosalind, Phoebe, Helena, Puck, Viola, Audrey, Titania, and the Nurse in venues around the country.

Many have performed in the major comedy and theater festivals such as the LA Improv Festival, the Chicago Improv Festival, the San Francisco Improv Festival, the Big Stinkin’ Improv Festival in Austin, the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. TV credits include: Fargo, True Blood, Parks and Rec, How I Met your Mother, Modern Family, Gilmore Girls, Parenthood, The Crazy Ones, The Sarah Silverman Program, Jimmy Kimmel and MADtv, as well as dozens of commercials.
