ColdTowne Theater is Austin’s home for alternative sketch, improv and stand up comedy. Located in the heart of the scenic Airport Blvd. car repair district, ColdTowne’s intimate, rock ‘n’ roll environs create a petri dish where up and coming comedians from central Texas can hone their craft in front of packed houses seven nights a week. ColdTowne Theater has boasted free parking and cheap comedy for over eleven years, becoming a mainstay of the local comedy scene.
The Spider House Ballroom
The Spider House Ballroom specializes in a variety of events with specialty cocktails and nightly drink specials. Happy Hour is every night from 5-8PM in the adjacent cafe.
Draped in red-velvet curtains, providing an intimate room for live music, comedy, film, candlelit cabarets, dance parties, and private functions with two stages and a full bar. The Spider House Ballroom’s calendar often features Austin’s most up-and-coming performing artists, musicians, and comedians. It’s cozy outdoor patio area is also home to Arlo’s Vegan food truck.
The Hideout Theatre
The Hideout Theatre is a two-stage venue in the heart of downtown Austin. With a downstairs black box seating around 90 audience members and an upstairs stage maxing out at around 50, you can be sure of an intimate theatre experience. Sitting squarely in Austin’s theatre district on the city’s main drag, Congress Avenue, The Hideout is one block from 6th Street, one of the most famous stretches of bars and live music in the country, and five blocks from the majestic State Capitol.
The New Movement
The New Movement is a comedy theater, arcade, and social club located in downtown Austin, Tx with a sister location in New Orleans. In addition to a robust improv and sketch comedy training center featuring 5 classroom spaces, TNM has improv, sketch, and standup programming 7 nights a week. The theater actively tours the country, has an upcoming comedy show on MTV, and is proud to be involved with notable local festivals such as Sound on Sound Fest, SXSW, Moontower, The Megaphone Marathons and now Out of Bounds. All shows at TNM are free or cheap!
The Velveeta Room
Opening in March 1988 as stand-up comedy exploded all across the nation as a new and viable live entertainment option, The Velv has reduced many a comic to tears, and is considered one of the tougher rooms in the country. It consistently houses a rousing and cunning audience of comedy fans who give no quarter to the meek and timid.
