Braised in Texas - 1861

Austin, TX

Inspired by works such as Christopher Guest's Best in Show, cult documentary Hands on a Hard Body and Coen brothers whimsy, Braised in Texas follows a day in the life of competitors, judges and bystanders at a barbecue competition in Central Texas.

A Texas debutante desperate for redemption. Ruthless army wives. The wizened cajun. The hard-partying brothers. Who has what it takes in the categories of chicken, ribs, pork and brisket to take home the coveted Grand Champion title?
Featuring some of Austin's finest character-based improvisers, Braised in Texas recently completed an acclaimed, sold-out run at ColdTowne Theater.

Backpack Picnic - 1504

(Sketch) Austin,TX

Imagine skeletons carpooling. Where are THEY going? Skeletons have no agenda. Now, imagine skeletons riding gorgeous living stallions. Are these the same skeletons from the carpool? Where are they GOING?! For this rare reunion, Backpack Picnic will combine old favorites, new sketches, shifting emphases, and maybe one French word to create a seamless mélange of ridiculous moments. Where ARE those skeletons going?

This troupe was born in Austin in 2002 and grew up as "The Edmond Bulldogs" before graduating from the stage to the internet. Following the production of a sketch comedy pilot with MTV in 2006, Backpack Picnic was adopted by OnNetworks--as an adult--and created 30+ sketch films. Now an old man, Backpack Picnic sits around and waits for younger troupes to visit, so he can tell them all the stories of the festivals he went to, like "Just For Laughs" in Montreal, where he shared a stage with Bob Odenkirk and Bill Hader. "Who?" the young ones ask.
